Google Plus Invites now available on eBay

If you have not been lucky enough to get yourself an invite to Google+, simply head over to eBay and buy one*. There are at least 25 different listings for Google Plus invites on eBay and the price varies anywhere between 99¢ and $75.

Something similar happened in 2004 when Google launched Gmail as an invite-only service. People flocked to eBay to buy invites and a number of sites also sprung up, dedicated to distributing Gmail invites. The most popular spooler was isnoop.net that sent out over a million Gmail invites in less than a year.

I haven’t had a chance to try Google Plus yet as my Google account uses Google Apps and not a Gmail.com address. Google Apps users are not allowed to create Google Profiles and people who don’t have Google Profiles can neither use Google Plus nor can they +1 web pages.

Maybe I will create another Gmail account for using Google Plus but in that case, building a network would be difficult since none of the existing Google Plus users will have my new email address.

[*] Update: Snehal Patil just mentioned on Facebook that Google has temporarily disabled new Google Plus registrations. That means even if you manage to buy an invite from eBay, Google+ will display this message during the registration process "We've temporarily exceeded our capacity. Please try again soon."
